Counselling

In general a short term and pressing problem requires counselling. Counselling gives an opportunity to get a confidential and non judgemental perspective, apart from family and friends, to talk over an issue that is causing immediate distress and is not easy to resolve alone.

Psychotherapy

Longer term work is known as psychotherapy or therapy, and allows an individual to work in depth and detail with a therapist with issues that feel complicated and may have been a problem for a long time. There may be a strong desire for change in emotional responses to life and in personal behaviour in order to lead a more fulfilling and balanced life and have better relationships with others.

The individual gains security from knowing that they have a set time each week in which they can develop personal insight and bring about change with the confidential help of their therapist.

There is an overlap between counselling and psychotherapy; we do not believe that one size suits all in emotional well being and at New Leaf our therapists will commit to working with you on the therapeutic route and time plan that is most appropriate for you.
